After the Ileana dress pattern launch I needed some holiday. Badly! :) This time our destination was Bulgaria. Not too far away from Romania (our backup destination). With our Land Rover and roof top tents, we drove through 9 countries in total: Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria and we even went shortly to the seaside in Greece!
Our view from the car when we crossed the border from Bulgaria to Greece.
After driving for two days we took some time to visit Belgrade. I had no idea what the city would bring and in the end it didn’t turn out that special, but it was a nice stop. One day (and 2.000 km) later we had reached our final destination: Bulgaria.
We had an amazing time in Bulgaria. I think it’s always difficult to get a good impression of a country by reading a travel guide, but Bulgaria was a very pleasant surprise. We only missed some contact with the locals. Cyrillic is just like Chinese to us!
I think the keywords of our holiday are: sun, quality time, wild camping, nature, Land Rover, swimming, … :)
Driving towards Buzludzha was probably one of the strangest experiences in my live ever. This momument in on a mountain peak and is massive! I never ever saw such a gigantic communistic building. It’s huge and I can’t stop thinking of how it should have been to actually build it…
I enjoyed spending a lot of time with the girls & Bjorn! We had no plans, no to-see-list. Just 3 weeks to spend with each other.
This holiday was a good first introduction to Bulgaria. I’m sure we will go back one day. Driving thorough Serbia, made us dream to head back in the same direction anyway. We love Eastern Europe a lot.Good morning Bjorn & Nore!
I hope you enjoyed your holiday too? Just leave a comment! Maybe you’ll inspire me to find a great destination for next year. :)
But to be honest: as long as I have my family with me, the destination isn’t that important. We’ll all have to get used to going back to school & getting back to work again. I’m still making lists of optional projects to start with. I don’t know what to do first: I’d love to organise a new contest, draw the women Louisa, write some free instructions, mix & match some of my own patterns,… I’m even thinking about how to find a way to share my experiences with my new food habits (I’m not calling it a diet, since I’m trying to find a way to eat healthier for the rest of my life). I’ve read more ‘healthy-food-books’ in the car and I feel like sharing my knowledge with you. What would you do if you were me?
