‘Alexandra and her sister’ was a project that involved a simple skirt and ‘a less easy dress’. For Ale’s dress some pattern grading needed to be done. She had chosen a dress from ‘stof voor durf het zelvers‘ in a size that was not available…. I didn’t want to disappoint her and drew the extra size! This was probably the reason why I kept postponing the project.
The fabric Ale chose is sponsored by Klijntje! Thanks a lot! The fabric with these little harts, is very popular here. For the tie, I used some bias binding and the coordinating fabric for the bodice part matches rest perfectly… A treasure from a Belgian flee market! And last but nog least: Georgette is my thread sponsor again!
To be honest: I did struggle with this project a lot… Do you sometimes have that feeling, that you would rather just throw the whole unfinished garment? Well this was how I felt when I was sewing this dress… My machine didn’t want to cooperate, I only had the chance to work from 9pm till sunset and was just too tired…. I was so afraid that de dress would not fit well, but when Ale tried it on, it seemed to be perfect! What a relieve… Ale happy = me happy!
I was also rather happy that her sister (I keep forgetting her name) choose a more easy project. A gathered skirt with a waistband, the modern Maramures style. A pattern from ‘allemaal rokjes‘. The fabric was sponsored by Julija’s and I combined it with some ribbon I got a long time ago from a dear friend for my birthday. Thanks Freya! And the thread…. from Georgette again! How I love to work with this ecological alternative. Did you notice, I photographed this skirt on a traditional wicker work fence?Another way to show you that Moroseni live in harmony with nature so perfectly!
So happy together!
Multumesc! Cu placere!
Thank you! You’re welcome!
They’re both just perfect!
(And yes, sometimes I also want to throw half-finished garments in the corner of the room!)
you are so sweet to have done this for these beautiful sisters:) The dress turned out beautifully – good for you for persevering!
