Happy birthday to Lisa!

By 12/02/2014Blog, Dress

About two weeks ago I was stressed! A lot! Home alone with the kids for a week, the start of the contest, some technical problems (without my IT support) and I was a little bit sick of  Compagnie M. It’s just so hard to find the right balance sometimes between ‘the Compagnie’ and my private live. So that’s why I decided to sew some dresses for the kids birthday. Just for fun: no stress. Like I used to. Sewing without taking pictures, without worrying about the perfect light and so on. Just sewing for pleasure!

Actually I enjoyed sewing these dresses a lot! The first one (for Lisa) was the easiest one. I choose my all time favourite pattern, the Maggie Mae, to sew a summer version. Since the weather stays rather warm for the time of the year in Belgium, I’m already dreaming of a hot summer. I was inspired by Hayley when I choose this fabric. I just couldn’t stop thinking of her pictures and picked this Cloud9 beauty! After some doubts and ‘discussions’ in the pattern-drawing-class, the teacher and I agreed that the golden dots Dear Stella fabric was the perfect match.

I’m so happy with the final result. The pattern is super easy and rewarding! I will definitely sew some more in the future…

With it’s subtle details, the Maggie Mae is just one of the cutest pattern ever.

Tomorrow I’ll show you Nore’s B-day dress. A more sophisticated project: sewn with a pattern drafted specially for the fabric I used! You can catch a glimpse here, but I hope you feel like reading the whole story tomorrow!? On Friday, Lisa & Nore are willing to show you the dresses as they were playing in there new rooms yesterday. We had soo much fun on there B-day. It was p-e-r-f-e-c-t!

But first I would like to give the floor to Ruth who runs the ecological fabric store ‘Georgette‘. She has this fabulous online shop that only sells ecological fabrics! And if you’re interested: you can buy the clouds fabric in her shop… It’s been a long time since I had sewn with Cloud9 fabrics, but now I’m sure that I will buy some more in the near future (actually I already did)! Not only because they are beautiful, but also because I truly care about the environment…

Hi everyone, my name is Ruth and I’m the woman behind Georgette, a Belgian fabric shop with only GOTS certified organic fabrics.  As I was looking for organic fabrics myself I’ve noticed it was very hard to find. Most people still connect organic with ‘boring’ and really, during my search I could only think the same. The second thing that made me fed up was that shops who had a small proffer of modern organic cotton didn’t always know why or didn’t know the difference between organic and artificial cotton.
Things really had to change. That’s why I decided to make a difference. Truly, I started my fabric webshop out of a frustration but also out of a passion. The passion to make the world a cleaner place and let people know that they can choose for the better! Georgette is almost 1 year online! Jeij! And ever since I notice every day that a lot of people are looking for nice, environment friendly fabrics. Awareness to make a change in what you buy is really a very good upcoming trend! Likewise I don’t like to call it a trend but a lifestyle to keep!
My best kept secret as a fabric shop owner is that I’m not that a great sewer.  It takes me like months before I finish something. That’s one of the reasons I work with guest bloggers. But the main reason is that it’s fun and very interesting to see different styles and idea’s that somebody else gets for and from a fabric. I really admire all those bloggers who work very hard and passionated on keeping there blog alive. So for that reason I’m also very, very thankful and lucky they all like making great stuff for the Georgette blog.

Still wanne know more about me? I’m a textile designer working on a freelance base. In Belgian I’m most known for my tiles designs for Rozetta, a Belgian cement tile company. I’m married to the most handsome man – that I know – in the world. He works as a graphic designer and also made all the graphics stuff for Georgette. He’s my friend, my lover but also the one who keeps me going. I don’t think I could do this without him. We live in a cute house with 2 cats.  Mostley I’m a vegetarian and my motto is: ‘Change what you would like to see changed in your own lifestyle and the rest will follow!” And so every month I try to change something about my lifestyle to make it more ecological. You should try it to! It’s the best thing that can happen to you: changes!

Prachtig gewoon!

That cloud9 fabric and that dress pattern are on my wish list. After seeing your dress I think I have no excuse not to buy them…
