Lielebeesje – Pure Mara

By Wednesday,6 August,2014Mara-contest

Hi, I’m Els and I blog over at lielebeesje (which is actually lieveheersbeestje, the Dutch word for ladybug).

For this Big Mara Blog Action, I wanted to make a Mara in its purest form: simple, white, the basic butterfly sleeves, no alterations or additions. I found the perfect white cotton in a pile of fabric I got from my mother. It’s at least 30 years old, maybe even more. It’s very light weighted (which is why I had to double the yoke, just like Marte did ) and it has little white flowers in it, a beautiful match with my idea of a Pure Mara. The only touch of colour I added, are the yellow piping and the pink, yellow and mint buttons.

My nearly 6-year-old daughter Lene is a tall but skinny girl, so I made her a size 4y, but I adjusted the length to a 6y. It fits her perfectly and Lene loves it!

This Mara blouse goes very well with a denim skirt or a pair of dark blue shorts. I also made her a matching hairband, for which I used this tutorial , because Lene likes to wear her hair down (by the way, it’s a great replacement for a sun hat!).

This Big Mara Blog Action was the little push (or should I say: kick in the butt) I needed to finally use one of Martes patterns and I haven’t regretted it for a single second! Louisa, Lotta, Julia … here I come! And I can’t wait to see the Julia sweater for adults! Thank you, Marte, for letting me participate in this Mara Blog Action and for making all these beautiful patterns! Hop over to my blog to read this message in Dutch and to see more pictures!
