Exactly seven weeks ago I started drawing my very first test version of the Louisa for women. Two weeks later I made this basic Louisa dress with a stunning Nani Iro canvas. Yes canvas. It’s a soft, light weight canvas (of course it’s Nani Iro!), so I dared to use it for my very first Louisa for women. I wanted to have a stunning fabric for my basic version, so I hope you agree that I found the perfect fabric with the help of Nancy, aka De Stoffenmadam.
Back to the dress. I hear you think: it this a Louisa? Yes it as. A very basic one. A dress that can be sewn in about 4 hours, a rather quick project. It includes no darts, all volume is created with the front and back princess seams. How easy is that?
I made the princes seams go inwards to help me look more slim then I actually am. No I didn’t loose weight anymore: it’s the pattern design that gives you this impression. ;) Isn’t that what we all want?
The general shape of the dress is slightly A-line, but the final design looks rather straight. I just added a small slope. Enough to make the dress comfortable to walk and even ride your bicycle.
The neckline is a bit more feminine than the kids version. A bit deeper to show the collar-bones (sleutelbeentjes). I love this detail in a women’s body a lot. :)
The cap sleeve is the first sleeve option and can be compared with the one from the Ileana dress. It’s a doubled sleeve, this way you don’t need to hem it. You can even use a contrast colour for an extra touch.
A detail of the back and invisible zipper. No matching print as it’s impossible to do this with all the curved panels. But it doesn’t really bother me.
It took us a long long time to have perfect photoshoot weather so I was getting rather nervous actually. In one week (Monday 7th of December) the pattern will be launched and normally I hope to blog a bit more in advance, but that’s how it goes from time to time with the Belgian weather. :(
I hope you like the general shape of the pattern so far? On Wednesday I’ll show you the Louisa with the kangaroo pocket. My personal favourite one! Although I love this Nani Iro version too. The fabric is just amazing!

Oh boy! I love the Louisa!!! I’m only wondering if it’s an easy dress to sew? I hope so! Because then, I will sew my very first dress (after several bags and a skirt, I have some fear of dresses, haha), woehoew! :D
If you can sew the children version, you can sew this one too. In fact you only need to assemble the front and back panels first and the rest of the instructions stay the same. Super easy! :)

Bedankt Saskia. Ik word echt weemoedig van het weer. :( Het is echt om knetter van te worden. Al een geluk heb ik voor mijn instructies intussen een heuse lichtinstallatie. Anders was de Louisa waarschijnlijk nog lang niet klaar!

Ik schrijf nu een dossier ‘aanpassingen’ voor de instructies. En ja hoor: het gaat zeker ook voor een kleine boezem. Dat hebben een aantal testers bewezen.

Bjorn heeft dat inderdaad weer heel goed gedaan. Het ging niet van een leien dakje met dat weer, maar uiteindelijk konden we toch 3 Louisa’s inblikken zaterdag. De kids vonden het maar niks. :( Maar het ging niet anders; Dus dat werd zondag ruimschoots goedgemaakt met een KIDS dagje met een sint-theater! Oef!

Ik denk dat ik aan de Sint wat tijd om te naaien ga vragen zodat ik bij de feestdagen een Louisa-jurk kan dragen! Heel schoon!!
Strak plan! Ik zet TIJD VRAGEN ook op mijn lijstje. Maar niet meer om Louisa’s te naaien. na 4 pasvormen en 6 echte jurken, ben ik er even klaar mee. Of misschien toch nog ééntje. Om het af te leren! ;)

Ik vind deze nog altijd een erg mooie versie, dus ik ben benieuwd naar jouw ultieme favoriet ;)
-oef- voor een gelukte fotoshoot, het weer is maar niets hé, de laatste tijd!
Die fotoshoots zijn soms wel om gek van te worden hoor. Maar het is gelukt. Er is er nog eentje ‘achter’. Die is misschien voor volgende week. Nu eerst even focussen op het ‘dossier de aanpassingen’. In het Engels ben ik bijna klaar. En dan vertalen! Yes! Het einde is in zicht. :)

Die versies van het Louisa event zijn ook stuk voor stuk pareltjes. Volgende week start de patroontoer. Dan kan je ze bewonderen.
O wat heb je dat beetje licht van de laatste weken goed weten te vangen. De jurk wordt er nóg mooier van! Ik verheug me enorm op wat er allemaal nog komt. Voorpret is de halve pret he ;-)
