Mambo dress

By 30/06/2013Blog, Dress

I bought this very beautiful Belgian sewing book ‘homemade minicouture‘ a while ago, but didn’t really used it yet because the patterns start at the size of 3. This book is divided in two parts: one for boys and one for girls! I choose the Mambo dress because I thought the fabric matches the pattern perfectly!

The patterns in the book are really creative and I like this model a lot: the front neckline is higher than the back neckline, which makes this dress almost a grown-up one. At the front are some ruffles added to give the dress some volume at the top, but to be honest, I would leave these ruffles out, if I’d make the Mambo again. I think ti probably works on bigger sizes but for my 2yo girls, it’s not really necessary… I was having doubts whether I would use this fabric for the Tinny dress by Straight Grain, but at the end I’m glad I used it for this Mambo dress. Here I am again with my white piping! Since I started using white piping, I keep choosing this ‘colour’ because it’s just so plain and simple!  I couldn’t catch one of the girls yet to take pictures, but to be honest: the middle part is a little bit to narrow for Nore and Lisa! Such a pity, because they are not really big for their age. I’ll have to find a smaller 3yo to give away this Mambo dress…
And now something totally different! Isabel A. is the happy winner of my meter vintage fabric! Congratulations Isabel!! I think this fabric is very similar to the one I’ve used and would be perfect for a dress like this.
