Before I leave to Romania, I would like to take some time to share some thoughts with you. When I started blogging and kind of launched Compagnie M. I didn’t have any idea where this blog would lead to. A whole new world opened to me: I’m really surprised by the collegiality amongst bloggers and I’m so happy with all the positivity that surrounds me the last few months. To be honest: I wasn’t happy at all in my last job, I was never motivated and blogging just gives me the feeling that ‘my work’ is finally appreciated! So at first I would like to thank all of you for all the (positive) comments and reactions. It’s just heartwarming and stimulates me to keep blogging, pattern drawing, … Although it’s not always to combine this blog with what is happening in ‘real life’! Oh, I sometimes I wish a day would count more hours…
Compagnie M. is of course still a very small project, but nevertheless I will be launching my first pattern to be sold soon. ‘The Shirt’, as I currently call it, will be the first pattern of my new ‘shop’. I’m really excited about launching this one, because I don’t know what to expect from it! We’ll just have to wait and see… The pattern testers are doing a great job at the moment, that’s for sure. Some of them already send me some feedback and I love the creations! I could never do this without pattern testers because selling my work, just starts with the perfect pattern and that’s really important to me. I’m a perfectionist, but hopefully in a positive way!
I’m also looking for a US / UK based person to check read my instructions on spelling. As you all know I’m not a native speaker and I don’t want to sell my work with mistakes in it! After we return from Maramures, my ‘shirt pattern’ will be launched, so you’ll still have to wait a little more… Before the actual launch of the pattern, I’ll organise a big give away so keep your eyes open. Of je gebruikt voornamen voor je patronen, maar je kan evengoed bijvoorbeeld steden kiezen. Bijvoorbeeld: ‘Havana’ (niet toevallig ook de naam van mijn dochter voor wie ik ‘het shirt’ wil maken) :) Veel succes!
Oh I love this idea a lot! For my English readers: Molle Bollle proposes to use names of cities like Havana. That’s how her daughter is called! Thanks Molle Bolle for the first original option! M

Good idea! But maybe you could add ‘M.’ to every city, to give it your own personal touch and make it more special. Havana M. Bilbao M. Paris M. Sounds great!

As for a name I like “The Blossom Blouse” or “Summer Smiles”.

I like the idea of using cities as names. Perhaps this is the Romania blouse; in honor of your trip and this time period in your life?

I also love the idea of calling your designs by place names, a bit like Sewaholic Patterns do. Why not the Maramures shirt? And if you go with ‘people’ names, you should definitely name a design for each of your daughters :)

I agree with the commenters above–a place name related to your Romania trip would be perfect.
(And for future patterns, if you kept to place names that were somehow significant to you at the time you launched the pattern, then your pattern collection would become a little semi-secret record of your journeys, internal and external. Neat!)

I thought you definitely wanted to use first names for your patterns, but if I had the choice: I wouldn’t, it’s a little bit ‘been there done that’… So the city names sound great indeed!

Hi there…I just stumbled across by way of An from Straightgrain, and I think I’m going to like it here. :) And since you put a call out (and I know I’m late to the party…), I am in the states and have pattern tested for people a few times already, and would for you, too, if you ever need it.
I would suggest two names:
The first is Childhood Shirt and i choose that name because that shirt reminds me of one that my grandmother made for me when i was little, a she was one of the persons that taught me to sew and embroider.
The second name is Prime Shirt since is the first you do and sell.
I hope you like my suggestions.
