Lately we’ve heard so much about Marte’s newest patterns, the Julia and the Lotta, but nobody’s been mentioning the Mara much. But guess what, I’m here today to discuss the one I sewed up last week! If you’re wondering who I am, I’m Julie and I write over at Our Chez Nous.
Our chez nous
When Marte contacted me asking to participate in her big Mara blouse action I couldn’t resist. First of all, because I adore all her patterns. And second of all, because I think when she released Mara it really hit a soft spot for me. It’s just one of those instant classics. A pattern that can be used in so many different ways but can also be used almost anytime (design style wise).
For my first version I wanted to go pretty simple. I love to mix a classic style with a modern fabric. So I paired my Mara with this fun pink geometric quilting cotton, with some bigger oversized white buttons and loops. I love the way it turned out. Not that A is super happy about the photos themselves, but she does like the pink! By the way, if you follow my blog, you might know that I’m currently trying to stay away from the pink for A, but this geometric was too fun, and I just couldn’t resist.
Now for some details. I sewed up the size 4 and as with most things, I should have lengthened it just a tad (just some personal taste here…she just always seems so tall!). I opted for a sleeve less option with the bias binding. And left out any extras, like piping, from the yoke, since I wanted a really simplistic look to it.
All in all, this pattern turned out great! Did I mention that it is super fast to sew up?! Think under an hour! That’s right, under an hour! Well, I hope you enjoyed my first version of the Mara, the next up one that I currently have on my cutting table is a mix between vintage and modern. Also, don’t forget to check out the tutorials that Marte has for transforming the blouse into a tunic/dress length. And all those sleeve options!
Well that’s my version, and my crazy girl :) Now make sure to check out the sew along that Marte is hosting AND if you hop on over to my blog, you’ll be able to find a discount code for the Mara!!!
