A while ago Rachael asked me wether I wanted to participate in the Selfish Sewing Week series and of course I did. A challenge to me, because I hardly sew for myself…Although Rachael and I never met in person, I think we have a lot in common. We both love sewing, that’s obvious, but since the PR&P challenge I got to know her a little better. Would be great to meet her in real life one day. I think I will have to plan a big trip around the world in the future! What a great dream! Just traveling around the world to meet so many awesome sewing friends! I would definelty take my Emery dress designed by Christine Haynes with me. A dress that’s easy to sew, fits perfectly and can be worn for all occasions! A dress that you can mix & match with basics to create different styles.
My fabric was maybe not the best choice to mix & match, but I still love it.
I took some selfies to give you an impression of my dress. Bjorn left to Romania with the camera without me realising that I had to post some pictures this week (don’t want to miss the deadline of course!). So I had to be creative without photographer and camera. Just my iPhone, a mirror and myself with my Emergy dress.
Together with the presentation of my dress, you get a sneak peek of my house… Can you tell that we love antique? Well: maybe one day it will all move to Romania (Did I just tell you? My god!) Bjorn is actually looking for a piece of land to buy in Breb, Maramures, Romania at this very moment! Exciting!
If we ever would move there, I will obviously take my Compagnie with me. Couldn’t live without it anymore. I just love to design my own patterns.
This dress is only the 4th garment I ever made for myself, but I’m sure more will follow soon as I already drew the Julia sweater, Lotta skirt & Swing skirt for women. Some people keep asking me to draw a Louisa dress as well. I will consider to turn it into a real women’s pattern one day. :)

Niet de meest welvarende hoek van Roemenië, althans, Hongarije is in die hoek al niet veel soeps. Voor ‘t goede doel verhuizen, werk of voor de rust? Ben altijd wel nieuwsgierig naar de beweegredenen van mede-emigranten. ;) Of past zoiets hier niet op de blog?
Jolien, het in inderdaad de hoek van Roemenië die niet geïndustrialiseerd is door zijn afgelegen liggen. Waardoor de natuur er weer net ongelooflijk mooi is. Het is de natuur, de eenvoud in het leven, hun waarden en uiteraard de rust die ons zo aantrekken. We gaan er nu al 4 jaar op vakantie waardoor we intussen zeker zijn dat we er op zijn minst een vakantiehuis willen maar liefst van al ook een paar jaar permanent zouden willen wonen. Voorlopig nog even een droom maar wel eens die heel dichtbij komt. M

I mean to comment on your blog posts so often but I am always reading from my phone and I can’t comment from my phone. And I’m just not on my computer that much. But I love this dress so much as well as all of your creations. Always so inspirational! :)

Mooi Marte! Dat stofje is prachtig! Naaien voor jezelf is dikwijls een uitdaging vind ik, maar wel één die veel voldoening geeft achteraf (en waar je veel langer plezier aan hebt dan aan de kinderenkleding die maar één seizoen past :)). En wow, verhuizen naar Roemenië! Ik heb super veel bewondering voor mensen die hun droom achterna gaan, doen dus! Maar idd, pak je Compagnie wel mee!
Selfish sewing week.. Dat ga ik hier ook eens invoeren! Maar dan misschien een maand i.p.v. een week, dan krijg ik al die geplande projectjes misschien eens af. En de Louise-dress voor dames –> yes please?
