Sewlovele – Nautical Mara Dress

By 25/07/2014Mara-contest

Hi! I am Anh-Chi and I have a little blog over at where I share my love of sewing for my two little girls.
I am so honored and thrilled that Marte has given me the opportunity to participate in her Mara blog action. For my Mara, I chose to go with a nautical theme because my daughter loves the color blue and being around water.
This is my first experience with a Compagnie M. pattern and I have fallen in love! The pattern itself is beautifully laid out and the pieces fit perfectly together. The instructions are very easy to understand and well-organized with beautiful accompanying pictures. I made a couple of modifications in an attempt to achieve the nautical look. First, I added a little self-drafted Peter Pan collar to give my dress a ‘sailor’ look to go along with the beautiful piping that accents the front bib.
After I tried the top on my little girl, I decided that I wanted her to have a bit of a looser fit in the belly area. So, I added a small triangle panel to the bottom side seams and produced a natural gather with side tabs accented with a gold button.
I also added a longer gathered skirt to give the dress more twirl factor, which my daughter really, really loves!

Thanks again, Marte, for letting me participate in this blog action! I had so much fun and can’t wait to sew up more of your beautiful patterns.
