The Lotta dress pattern tour: groovy baby… and mama

Hi – it’s Trine from Groovy Baby and Mama.

May I present Wilma and the vintage Lotta Dress. Once again Marte has made an absolutely adorable pattern! The dress is easy to make – even if you are a beginner, because Marte has made such great instructions for this dress! Really, Marte – you are the master of detailed instructions. We love that!

This dress is made with vintage fabric from the 70s. I’ve chosen to do the zip back version – what can I say, I’m a zipper girl and always choose zippers over buttons whenever it’s possible.

Wilma is a slender girl. She’s just turned 7 and is a little over 130 cm tall and should probably be wearing a size 9 in length but not in width. Now, this dress is a gift for a sweet girl a little older and bigger than Wilma – but still I opted for the size 7 top as I find the dress a little roomy. And furthermore I took it in quite a bit in both sides. I also shortened the top so that it would sit more on the waist. I lengthened the skirt by about 10 cm I think.

Even though I went down a size compared to what I would normally make for Wilma the dress is still a little to big for her I think – but will no doubt fit the receiver.

When I make Wilma her Lotta Dress I will probably use size 6 or even 5 for the top part – and just lengthen the skirt.

I left out the buttons on the collar and pockets and stitched them down instead. I like this look very much.

I’m so in love with this pattern and all the beautiful details and possibilities. You are a genius, sweet Marte – and thank you so much for inviting me.
