The Lotta dress pattern tour: Mina Dotter

It has been a delight to see all the diffferent versions and interpretations of the ‘Lotta‘ dress pattern this week on the blog of Compagnie M. Roos and myself are very excited to wrap up the pattern tour and show you the Lotta dress we put together. We just love the cap sleeves on this dress.

The hardest part of making a garment, after choosing a pattern, is deciding on the fabrics to use and the combinations that could work out to be an eye-catcher.

For the bodice we chose this gorgeous summery ‘sunshine stripe‘ fabric, found in the shop of Cozette* and combined it with a bright blue skirt.

The front bodice was vertically cut in two in the middle so I could create a V-shape with the lines. It took some persistence and seam ripping but I managed to make it just perfect. In the back of the bodice the blind zipper is sandwiched between an upside-down V.

After comparing the measurements of Roos with the size chart I decided on making size 7. In the end the bodice was too wide so I had to adjust the width. Marte explains how to do this in the tutorial, so I followed her instructions but used a french curve ruler to redraw the side seam for a more tailored fit instead of making straight lines.

By the time I came to the end stage of the tutorial, I realised I had no buttons to secure the folded collar. With no time to spare I had to improvise.
Luckely I found some DMC thread in a matching color in my stash and just embroided the outlines of the collar.

The pattern gives you several options for pockets. We chose the side seam pockets to keep the view of the skirt as simple as possible but still incorporate pockets, because they are a must have for Roos. Next time, I would place the pockets a bit higher in the side seam, as Roos finds it difficult to reach for the pockets. Her arms just aren’t long enough yet. (Note by Marte: Isabelle used the test pattern for this dress. The positioning of the pocket is higher in the final pattern.)

Thanks Marte for having us participate in the pattern tour. We wish you all the best of luck with this newest pattern. Roos couldn’t be more happy with her new dress.
