I have admired compagnie-M creations for a long time. Every time I saw a new pattern launch, I called out to my daughter and asked if she liked the examples. She never did … until a few weeks ago. She is finally out of the “I hate pockets”-stage. Hooray! I immediately ordered the Lotta and Ileana patterns.

This is the first Lotta I have sewn. The neckline had me a bit worried at first, but it turned out very nice thanks to the accurate instructions. The dress looked perfect in my mind, but I messed up the cutting of the fabric. I had enough to get all pattern pieces, but there was not enough fabric left for matching prints. I’ll have to concentrate more next time!

There were no arguments about the main fabric choice: the perfect fabric for a winter dress has been waiting in my stash: Chickadees in the Snow (Timeless Treasures).
My daughter always liked the chickadees in our garden. She has fallen completely in love with them since we tried (and failed) to rescue one this summer.

I lined the entire dress as it is meant for cold winter days. I folded the entire seam allowance down (opposite of the instructions) and stitched it on the lining to get the extra “puffy” effect on the skirt.  I added a playful secret at the hem of the lining fabric. The little one loves it.

I found the matching cardigan in a store I’m currently temping at: the universe was with me on that one! The dress was finished in time and my model was in good mood for a photoshoot.
