I never planned to sew a coat myself and I already bought one for my daughter, but when there was a testers call for this stunning pattern, I just couldn’t resist!
For this Louisa Coat I went shopping in my own fabric stash. I chose a beautiful orange wool fabric and found the perfect lining combination: a bright blue fabric with orange details from Strass, a Belgian children’s clothing brand. Together they give the coat a bit of a ‘retro’ look and the colours suit my daughter very well. Finding matching blue piping and a zipper was a bit of a challenge, but … mission accomplished!

I added one little detail of my own, which was very well received by my daughter: I made thumbholes in the cuffs. That way she doesn’t have to wear gloves when it’s not too cold. And they go very well with the ‘wiggly eyes’ she keeps in those beautiful pockets at all times. ;-)

To make the outfit complete, I used the rest of the lining fabric to make my daughter a matching infinity scarf, a beanie and a Skippy Skirt.

My daughter loves wearing this coat. She gets paid a lot of compliments (I even got a text message from another dad at school who was very impressed) and every time she answers with a big smile on her face: ‘My mommy made this coat herself!’
